It goes without saying that 2020 has been a rough year for all. But there has been a few beacons of light this year. Mostly in the form of new material being released from our favorite bands. But none is as exciting as the new AC/DC drop. A new single, ‘Shot In The Dark.’ And an announcement of a new album. It’s just what the world need.
As far as the new single goes, it’s pretty much what a fan would expect from AC/DC. They are, after all, the kings of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.’ They’ve been riding the same sound for 45 years. And it’s taken them to the top echelons of all of popular music. Through all the trends, all the fads. They’ve stayed the same and triumphed over all. So it’s no surprise that ‘Shot In The Dark’ sounds like it could be on any AC/DC record. It’s typical, catchy AC/DC. Done right, for the fans. A short, sweet, to the point hard rocker. The kind the band is known for making.
But what’s really exciting is what’s coming with this album. For years, it seemed that AC/DC was done. They were going to finish up their ‘Rock Or Bust’ tour with Axl Rose on vox and quietly bow out. But then Brian Johnson received ear surgery to cure his Menier’s disease. A debilitating, hearing loss disorder. Which seemed hopeful. But no announcements were being made of his return. Until rumors of Johnson and Phil Rudd returning started circulating a few years ago. Complete with photo evidence in Vancouver, BC. Well, now it’s all confirmed. Johnson and Rudd are back and they’ve been working on a new album this whole time. Plus, Cliff Williams is back after announcing his retirement. It’s massive news and welcome. A bright spot in an otherwise very dark year. And the craziest thing? There’s no song title on the album with the word ‘rock’ in it!
