This morning on the Today’s show, Aerosmith announced an 18 show residency at the Las Vegas Park Theater. It’s entitled the ‘Deuces Are Wild’ event and it begins next year on Saturday April, 6th. The residency will conclude July, 9th. There are 18 shows in total. Giving the band plenty of rest between shows. Oh, and Steven Tyler got into a minor selfie scuffle with an out of line fan.
Honestly, this is a good move for Aerosmith. They’re older, and despite what some members think they can do, they can’t. What I mean by that is vigorously touring with numerous projects and never taking a break. One of the qualities of Aerosmith is that their sound hasn’t aged. They still sound just like they did in their Geffen prime years. Even though the members are all nearing 70. Some are even over 70. So it makes perfect sense that the band would slow down a little on the vigorous touring to rest and increase the quality of the shows that they do play. It’s that formula that keeps Steven Tyler’s voice from aging. And it really is ageless. He’s in the freak vocal ballpark without question. And he still performs with all they energy he’s always had. So it’s safe to say that the shows will most likely be really good. The past few years have been excellent. Get the band’s ‘Live at Download Fest’ if you have any doubts.
I also love the logo the band is using for the residency. I’m not sure if it’s new or not but it’s sure bad ass. The silver eagle wings shine with grandeur. It’s the perfect logo for this part of their career. But what’s confusing is, is this emblem for the residency only? Or for a few more years of the band being around? With the possibility of new material? Because they’ve already done one European leg of their coined ‘Aero-verderci’ tour. Which indicates that the band is going on a farewell tour.
Another little tid bit happened on the Today show this morning. A fan jumped out of the crowd that lined the bands walkway to the performance stage and attempted a selfie. Steven Tyler quickly, and appropriately ducked and pushed the moron out of the way. And I gotta say, Tyler was actually really classy about it. He could have done so much worse. He could have made a major scene. Instead he kept going forward after casually shoving the dude out of the way. The guy was in the wrong entirely. He had no business trying to take a selfie while the band is making their way to the stage. And if you watch the video you can see Tyler is getting into the zone. He’s focused, he’s got a job to do. And then some jackass comes out and shakes the focus. Not cool dude. But Tyler is a class act and tweeted after the show: ‘No time, bro-this is LIVE TELEVISION! Come to the show if you want an intimate experience.’ Which is basically saying, “I’d still be down to meet you and take a selfie.’ And true class act to the core.
New emblem.
