Goodnight Professor – Neil Peart 9/12/52 – 1/7/20

This is one of the biggest, most unexpected losses in the rock/metal community. And really all of popular music for that matter. Neil Peart, one of the greatest drummers of all time, and the creator of ‘melodic’ drumming, died in Santa Monica on Jan 7, 2020; succumbing to brain cancer.

Hard Rock Anniversary – 1/9/84-Van Halen’s ‘1984’

It’s the highest selling record to never go number one. It’s easily sold in excess of 10 million copies. Coming off of the heels of their weak, yet successful ‘Diver Down,’ Van Halen were ready to hit a level of stardom not seen in the hard hard and metal world (besides Quiet Riot). And they would do it with their meticulously crafted masterpiece ‘1984.’

R.H.C.P. To Record New Album With John Frusciante

Looks like 2020 is gearing up to be a great year for rock and metal. The latter part of 2019 saw a number of excellent reunions including Motley Crue and Rage Against the Machine, just to name a couple. Which seems to have set up the next few years with what will hopefully be a steady output of material and tours.

Have Yourself A Hard Rock Christmas

It’s that time of year again, when snow falls (depending on where you live), the stockings get hung and kids are nearly unbearable with excitement. And while there is much joy that surrounds the holiday, the practical reality of getting prepared can be extremely stressful. Sometimes you need to let off some steam. The Four Great Tracks From Van Halen III

A while back I posted an in defense of argument in favor of Van Halen III. The album that really gets run down in the bands catalog. And to be honest, I may have gone a little overboard in my praise for the album. There are some truly cringe worthy moments on it. The ballads don’t work. And a few mid tempo tracks try way to hard to be something they aren’t. However, there are four tracks on the album that rank among some of Van Halen’s best work. I’m talking about: ‘Without You,’ ‘One I Want,’ ‘Fire In The Hole,’ and ‘Ballot Or The Bullet.’
