King’s X – The Most Underrated Band of All Time? Yes!

King’s X is, without question, the most underrated band in rock, metal or any other genre for that matter.  The power trio consisting of Dug Pinnick (bass, vocals), Ty Tabor (guitar, vocals) and Jerry Gaskill (drums, vocals) holds it down like no other. Eric Singer & Tommy Thayer – Legit Replacements or Simple Copycats?

It’s been a hot topic for the past thirteen years in the rock/metal world.  Are Tommy Thayer and Eric Singer legitimate replacements or are they just copy cats up on stage making the real KISS feel like a tribute band?  It’s a complicated answer. Continue reading Eric Singer & Tommy Thayer – Legit Replacements or Simple Copycats?

Steven Adler – The Sweet Child of Guns N Roses

As far as drummers go, I never really thought about Steven Adler.  I mean, he’s a good drummer and all.  Certainly more than capable.  But I never listened to ‘Appetite for Destruction’ for the drums.  It’s all about the riffs.  I do find Adler to be an incredible human being though. Megadeth Grammy House Band Derp

At this years Grammy’s Megadeth accomplished a first.  They won a Grammy.  In all of the years of output and nominations Dave, Dave and Co. have never once won.  Unfortunately it was in one of the many sub-categories; Best Heavy Metal Performance.  Not best metal album.  And honestly, the competition wasn’t too competitive.  With the exception of Gojira.  Anyways, that’s not the point.  The point is that despite the venue being almost empty because most people were out on the red carpet, Megadeth won their first Grammy.  However it couldn’t be done in true Megadeth fashion without a little fiasco.  Despite the win the house band obviously couldn’t be bothered to learn a Megadeth song.  Instead they played Metallica’s ‘Master of Puppets’ while the band walked to stage to accept their award.  Sparking outrage within the heavy metal community.  Of course while the community is steaming about the house band playing Metallica, Dave Mustaine is upset over something else.  It’s not the fact that they played it for the acceptance of the award.  It’s the fact that, in his opinion, the band butchered the song.  And I’d kind of have to agree with that.  Well, maybe not butchered but they certainly played it very lackluster.  What bothers me is that the band couldn’t be bothered to learn a simple Megadeth song.  I don’t think the house band made a mistake.  I think they just assumed that ‘Master of Puppets’ could represent all of heavy metal for the evening.  And yes, while the song is one of the most recognized heavy metal pieces outside of the genre, it still wasn’t right.  Megadeth deserves to have their own music played.  It verifies just how out of touch the Grammys really are.  It just made the whole situation awkward.  Fortunately at the end of the day they won.  And Dave Mustaine and crew were thankful.  After all, it’s not Megadeth without a little controversy.  In the words of Dave Mustaine, ‘Can’t blame them for not being able to play’.

Metallica/Lady Gaga Collaboration

Sunday nights 59th annual Grammy awards were blessed with a performance by Metallica.  Lady Gaga joined in on the fun and sang half the lyrics with the band.  I’ll get to my opinion about the collaboration in a second.  But for now let’s talk about the objective obvious. The World Needs Biohazard

So we’re six days into a new presidential administration.  And so far things look pretty bleak.  First was an order to scale back the affordable health care act followed by approvals to move forward on the oil pipeline at Standing Rock and Keystone.  Many lives are at risk just on these two decisions alone and it’s only the tip of the iceberg.  The racism, the misogyny and the millions who either agree with it or tolerate it.  It’s disgusting.  In times like this it’s imperative that heavy music has a purpose to make statements that grind into your head to get you up and moving for change.  Enter Biohazard.
