It’s been quite a year for Dolly Parton. The country legend was recently inducted into the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame. And has subsequently learned about the diehard Dolly fans that exist in the hard rock and metal community. Names like Nikki Sixx, Steve Perry, Steven Tyler, Richie Sambora and even the living legends Paul McCartney and Ringo Star. Entitled ‘Rockstar,’ this album is looking like the definitive who’s who collaboration with Parton at the helm.
The album, comprising of a combination of originals and covers, going through the whole gamut of rock. Say what you want about the idea. But Parton has brought in the big guns. Giving the record major authentic potential and kudos. And can you believe that it’s Dolly’s 49th album?! 49! Who the hell has 49 albums?
Her new single ‘World On Fire,’ has already made waves. Despite the albums November release date. With Parton performing the song at the Country Music Awards on May 11th. Overall, I think it’s a generic track. I absolutely can’t stand the clap snare drum setting. But then again, Dolly Parton doesn’t do rock music. This is her first venture into the genre. And it’s flattering that a legend such as her is giving some mainstream credence to a wonderful genre that’s currently on life support. Plus, it’s not like the point of view of the song isn’t relevant. The world is indeed on fire.
As far as the album goes. I’m sure it’ll be a smash hit. Am I expecting it to be an incredible piece of work? No. Could it be amazing? Sure. The cover choices are solid. The guests are legendary. And Ms. Parton’s voice sounds just fine. At 77 she still holds her own. And the four album cover variants have displayed that she’s ready to model the fashion is typical glam glory. She’s rockin’ it hard. And hopefully the album reflects the passion and edge that gave the hard rock genre its moxie. Crank it, live it, love it.
