First they made waves with their debut single ‘Rise.’ And just when you didn’t think it was enough, Extreme release two more singles at the same time to satisfy that pavlov drooling craving for tasty, quality hard rock.
The band couldn’t choose on a next track. So why limit yourself? ‘Rebel’ is a very strong, traditional hard rock track. While ‘Banshee’ is truly something special. Both tracks prove that Extreme aren’t just that band that wrote ‘More Than Words.’ Imagine Aerosmith and Metallica’s love child. That’s the direction of the new album so far.
‘Banshee’ satisfies the craving for a driving, catchy, slippery hard rock gamut. There’s a really appealing bounce to the song. Which gives ‘Banshee’ a bit of mass appeal. Proof that Extreme have exploded back on the scene. Of course, Nuno’s solo is amazing. This time opting for more texture and feel. Proving that while he has other worldly technical ability. He’s also sensitive to what’s appropriate at any given moment.
‘Rebel’ has a big swing element to it. A timeless classical feel. The passion truly shines through. Although it’s not quite as catchy as ‘Banshee,’ it’s still a very strong track. The chorus is simply slammin.’ The guitar solo, again, a total home run. One of the best that Nuno has ever done. Giving life into not just Extreme, but all of rock as a whole. But that’s not all. The vocal harmonies take the band to the next level. It’s a complete package of talent through and through.
That talent shines through the first three singles off ‘Six.’ It’s clear that Extreme are back in a huge way. It’s been fifteen years since the band has released any new material. And this new offering is insanely good for any group of the the era that Extreme represent. Displaying that they are truly a cut above the rest. Crank it, live it, love it.
