Last week Jimmy Kimmel hosted new pop sensation Billy Eilish on his late night show. Eilish is the latest pop craze to hit the nation. The 17 year old is an interesting figure, despite her lack of raw talent. And I believe it’s her intrigue that has fans going wild. But Jimmy Kimmel challenged the imaged rocker and she showed that her diligence wasn’t quite up to par.
Now, most people are defending the 17 year old. Which is understandable when you look at it from the angle of, ‘she’s 17, stop picking on her.’ But if you look at from the angle of, ‘this person knows nothing about music, doesn’t do her diligence, and every one still freaking loves her while there’s actual hard working musicians out there struggling,’ it can be very frustrating.
I feel that Eilish’s success is a slap in the face to legit musicians everywhere. And my feeling is that Kimmel may also feel that way and decided to challenge to pop star. I mean, this gal whispers and people freak out. WHY?!?! Of course, that’s not all they talked about. They also talk about the typical, ‘navigating through fame at such a young age,’ and all that jazz. It’s a legit interview. I mean, he didn’t have her on just to bust her about her lack of musical knowledge. In fact, he mentions that he enjoys her album with his children. But either way, it’s frustrating.
If you’re frustrated with Eilish’s success, don’t blame her. She is after all, a kid. The people to really blame are the suits behind her. The suits that promote brainless, iq lowering crap. She’s not the only pop star to come out with a lack of pure, raw talent. But she is the first to come across as this rocker which makes her look even more like a poser. Hopefully she’s just the flavor of the week.
