The Priest have been on a hell bent for metal tour to represent their 50 years of metal innovation. And the journey continues this fall with Queensryche opening along a string of U.S. dates.
Priest have been on 50th anniversary trek since right before the pandemic hit. Obviously, things happened and the band had a hard time soldiering forward with their coveted anniversary. Their 50th anniversary box set, which contains every studio album and a long string of live material, held the buzz. And now the Priest is back, announcing a fall tour that’s sure to get the fans in the venues.
The last few tours have brought out some surprises. During the ‘Firepower’ tour, the Priest busted out ‘The Sentinel.’ Shocking fans when Rob Halford tore up the vocals. Hopefully this tour will contain some surprises as well. Judas Priest may not have the original energy from the KK and Tipton days. But Andy Sneap and Richie Faulkner fill in well. Especially considering Faulkner’s recent heart attack mid show.
Faulkner has earned his keep. Having contributed to the last two Priest albums. And Sneap fills in admirably. I would say that it’s worth the celebration of heavy metal. Not many bands could pull off a tour missing two of their three key members. But Priest are the originators of heavy metal as we know it. And that’s worth celebrating. They’re not called the ‘metal gods’ for nothing.
