On Tuesday, November 7th many Americans took to the polls in statewide local elections. And there were many surprises at the end of the day. The biggest being Danica Roem. A transgender heavy metal frontwoman presiding residence in Virginia’s 13th district. She defeated 13-term incumbent Robert Marshall who on many occasions has described himself as Virginia’s ‘chief homophobe’ and has doctored many bathroom bills limiting transgender people from using the proper restroom according to their current gender affiliation. And while Roem’s victory is a great step in defeating Trumpism, what’s also really cool is the fact that there’s some heavy metal representation in the system.
Ms. Roem is the front woman for the band Cab Ride Home (excellent tongue in cheek name). A traditional thrash band that’s self described as ‘drunken thrash metal.’ Well, when I hear that I just think ‘classic big four thrash.’ And that’s exactly what their sound is. Think Slayer, but instead of going to hell you go to the corner bar. It’s a lot of fun.
Cab Ride Home released their first full length debut album ‘Crash the Gate’ earlier this year. It’s a really underground album as of right now. I couldn’t find it on I-tunes and the youtube exposure is limited. But there’s enough vids to get an idea of what Cab Ride Home is all about. The bands online page reads ‘We’re a five piece group and all members are committed to ultimately touring full-time.’ Well, we’ll see how Danica’s victory changes that statement. There’s no statement yet from Roem or the band on how her victory will effect the future of the band.
What’s also really cool to see is all the support from fellow metal heads. Fellow Virginian metal frontman Randy Blythe from Lamb of God showed his support online. As well as Pearl Jam lending in their support. Below are the few videos I could find on Cab Ride Home. The quality of sound is not exactly the best, but you’ll get the idea.
Congratulations on your historic victory Representative Roem. Good luck, and here’s to supporting all Virginian’s and maybe someday all Americans equally.

This vid was done before the transition of Ms. Roem. But it’s the highest quality sound I could find.
