True to their nature. Metallica have done an excellent job of Pavloving the metal fan base prior to releasing a new album. Their first three singles have done well. And have received positive reviews overall. And now the band has released one final teaser before the big day. By releasing the title album track ’72 Seasons.’
The song is 1,000% Metallica to the core. I know a lot of people say that when the band releases a new track or album. But this time it really is true. A real gamut of excellent riffage. Something that Hetfield and co. never seem to run out of. Capturing the energy of the early years. While finding an appropriate balance that flatters their aging maturity.
The intro is a little long winded. But it’s clear that Metallica are going for a live feel. Finally, the riffs kick in. Of which there are three solid ones. Classic thrash done well. Keeping the faith alive. But I certainly wasn’t prepared for the drop heavy, ten ton anvil of a chorus that exists. Metallica aren’t just saying ‘we’re back.’ But rather, ‘this is how you do it.’ To dudes half their age.
Kirk Hamment’s solo is a perfect journey for the song. Taking a worth while break from the wahh pedal. James Hetfield’s voice sounds in tact. And has aged well. Especially when compared to some of his peers. The production is spot on. Metallica finally took a hint from fans with ‘Hardwired…To Self Destruct’ in terms of production quality. With the the previous two albums before that not being up to sonic standards. ’72 Seasons’ continues that sound quality excellence. And the album is shaping up to be a banger. So crank it, live it, love it. Jam on some new Metallica and get ready for a killer album.
