There’s no other way of saying it. The big stadium tour that was going to set records this summer, featuring Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett, have decided to go on ‘no matter what.’ That decision is simply irresponsible. Both for fans and the bands touring.
The news ultimately broke roughly ten days ago. But it wasn’t really circulated until a few days ago. Tommy Lee, one of Trump’s most outspoken critics, made the statement that the tour would be happening. He even made statements about no knowing where to really go with his drum set on this tour. According to Lee, he and founding Crue member Nikki Sixx have been, ‘in several production meetings.’ And that they were like ‘two kids in a candy store.’ Lee went on to say, ‘By the time all this apocalyptic bullshit is over, I think everyone’s going to be in a really good mood to go out and have the best fucking time ever!’
There’s just one problem. As the head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Dr. Anthony Fauci said, ‘you don’t make the timeline. The virus makes the timeline.’ And that’s just the absolute truth. Those who chose to ignore that or think they can control the timeline are just delusional. Now, there’s still some time to see where this pandemic is going to go. And the projected numbers have dropped for the United States as a whole significantly. Due to social distancing. But we still don’t really know what’s going to happen in the coming months. So as to say something like, ‘this tour is happening no matter what.’ is no responsible. For fans, bands and crew members.
It’s also just not fiscally feasible. What? They’re gonna do the tour and there’s no cure or vaccine yet by Mid June? That’s when the tour starts. Do they really think people are going to show up for those early shows? Don’t get me wrong, I hope everything works out. But the bands are risking major ticket losses. They should simply postpone the tour until 2021. And of course, honor all the tickets that have been bought. It’s just the most reasonable thing to do in a situation like this. Fiscally or otherwise. They bands highly risk playing to half full stadiums. Hopefully they’re playing it by ear and haven’t ruled out postponing the early shows.
And that’s just the way it is. It’s out of our control. All we can do is social distance to starve this monster waiting for us outside. And hopefully that what most Americans decide to do at least until mid July.
