A few weeks ago the hard rock/metal world was teased by the great Crue. It appeared that Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee were in the studio with long time producer Bob Rock. Discussing who knows what. But now there’s been some light shined on the semi telling nature of the photo. Motley Crue are indeed in the studio, working on new material.
The tracks are for the new upcoming ‘Dirt’ movie, that’s apparently been in the process of getting produced for almost a decade now. Don’t get overly excited though, there are only four new tracks being made for the film. But there is reason to be somewhat excited seeing as Bob Rock is producing. And Nikki Sixx has publicly stated that the songs will be ‘ball busters.’ After it was questioned as to how the new songs will fit in with the movie and the rest of the Crue’s discography. Personally, I trust that the Crue will deliver four killer tracks that fit in perfectly with the film and their legacy. And don’t worry too much about Vince’s vocals. It’s studio work and Bob Rock is at the helm. They’ll figure out a way to make him sound good. It’s the live performances that he needs an exponential amount of help with.
But here’s the question: What if the songs are majorly successful and the movie is a smash? Are the Crue just going to ignore that and not tour in support? I mean, they supposedly signed contracts in 2015 stating that after the ensuing tour at the time was finished they could no longer tour. Basically, they forced themselves to stop touring. Actually, I think the bigger question is: Was it all a marketing ploy? Like in the case of Ozzy, KISS and The Scorpions (don’t get me wrong, I’m glad Ozzy and The Scorpions decided to stick around). Will they officially tour in support? I’m leaning towards yes. But they’ll figure out a way to not call it a tour. Maybe they’ll spread the locations out thin. With some time in between shows. I mean, the contract says no more tours. Not no more new music and a few shows to boot. But I would not expect a full on tour. This is the Crue after all and there needs to be some retention of authenticity. Otherwise the fans will see right through it and drop off like dying flies.
But all things considered, it shouldn’t deter our little buzz from getting four new Motley Crue songs. As Tommy stated in an online statement, ‘It’s that new shit!!!’ And if he’s excited about it, then so should the rest of us.
Hopefully it will sound like the self titled with Vice on vocals. Something of this nature. God that would be killer.
