The bias against hard rock and heavy metal has struck again. This time in the form of a ten second bit that NBC aired of Ozzy Osbourne performing his new single ‘Patient No. 9.’ It all went down on Thursday nights NFL season opener at SoFi Stadium.
The Los Angeles Rams, defending Superbowl champs, hosted the Buffalo Bills, Superbowl favorites. The pregame show lasted roughly two hours. And featured rap artist after rap artist. Most of whom I’ve never even heard of. Like the network is trying to make this ‘thing’ happen. Which is all well and good as long as some rock was represented. Well, it wasn’t in the pregame show. But rest assured, Ozzy Osbourne would be taking the stage at halftime.
The first half of the game came and went. Then Ozzy took the stage. Only to be shown for, at most, ten seconds before NBC sports commentators took over. Which is rediculous because it’s the first game of the season. There’s literally 30 min of game time to discuss. That’s nothing! So, NBC will show two hours of rap and hip hop. But when it comes to rock, and a fucking legend by the way, they can only cough up ten seconds.
Not only that, but the Rams tanked in the second half. And there were many pundits, including local LA sportscaster Fred Roggin, who tried blaming the Rams lack of moxy on Osbourne. Really? You’re going to blame a teams shortcomings on a rock stars halftime performance? Get outta here with that crap. Just another bias against rock and metal. I don’t think it will ever change.
