1991 is often referred to as one of the greatest years ever for hard rock and heavy metal. The year saw countless, massive records released to wide scale audiences, who ate up what they were offered: Metallica’s self titled, Pearl Jam’s eponymous debut album ‘Ten,’ Red Hot Chili Peppers’ major breakthrough with ‘Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic,’ Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind,’ Soundgarden’s ‘Badmotorfinger,’ Mr. Big’s ‘Lean Into It,’ Sepultura’s ‘Arise,’ Skid Row’s #1 ‘Slave to the Grind,’ Tesla’s ‘Psychotic Supper.’ You get the picture. But arguably the most epic, well crafted and ambitious release of the year was the release of Guns N’ Roses’ ‘Use Your Illusion’ albums.

As the international pandemic of Covid-19 continues to linger on and on, it’s becoming clear that many people are learning to live with the disease. Whether that means getting vaccinated, wearing masks, doing both and trying to have some semblance of normalcy, or ignoring all the scientific facts altogether and still moving on. The time was right, five years later, for a massive comeback. And that’s exactly what Metallica did with 2008’s ‘Death Magnetic.’

Iron Maiden gone samurai. That’s the visual and at times audible direction of the new album ‘Senjustu.’ Which translates into ‘tactic and strategy.’ It’s the first album since 2015’s ‘Book of Souls’ and continues that records direction in it’s progressive elements.

R.I.P. Charlie Watts – 6/2/41 – 8/24/21

The music world was hit hard last Tuesday when Charlie Watts, drummer and one of the core three members of The Rolling Stones, passed away. The outpouring of appreciation from contemporaries and those who have been influenced has been immense. Solidifying a legacy that will never die.

Dream Theater are back with a vengeance. Releasing their strongest single in a decade. The track, entitled ‘The Alien,’ is an onslaught of progressive metal. And is an excellent start to what is hopefully a Dream Theater masterpiece.

Guns N’ Roses Release ‘New’ Track ‘Absurd’

Guns N’ Roses have shared their first new music since Slash and Duff McKagan’s return. The track, entitled ‘Absurd,’ made its live debut at a show at Boston’s Fenway Park nine days ago. And they released the studio version roughly a week ago. The song is…well…absurd.
