Today Matt Cameron, the drummer for Soundgarden/Pearl Jam, has teased a short video for his new up coming solo album entitled ‘Cavedweller’. It’s no secret that Soundgarden has had a rough year, losing their front man Chris Cornell in the spring. So this kind of comes as a surprise. What’s even more surprising is how good the music in the teaser video is. Continue reading Matt Cameron Soundgarden/Pearl Jam Drummer to Release New Solo Album ‘Cavedweller’.
Mr. Big – ‘Defying Gravity’ Album Review
The year started out slow. But once June hit it seems like every band and their dog is now releasing new material (not that I’m complaining). I just wasn’t expecting it. The other matter I wasn’t expecting was a new Mr. Big album. Continue reading Mr. Big – ‘Defying Gravity’ Album Review
Scorpions!! CHANGE YOUR CONCERT SET!!
So I saw the Scorpions about two years ago at the L.A. Forum. It was the bands 50’th anniversary tour! 50! I figured I had to go. It was a great show and the band sounded tight. Sure, there was a little down tuning because Klaus Meine is in his late 60’s. But they were only down a step and the songs retained their urgency and excitement. Continue reading Scorpions!! Best Bands You’ve Never Heard – White Trash & the Badass Brass (Four college drop outs with attitude…And a brass section)
Ever heard of White Trash? Not the personality type, the band! You may or may not have. Of course, when one hears a band name like White Trash one might assume it’s some sort of twangy, southern rock that might as well be country. This is actually pretty far from the truth. Megadeth Vs. Metallica: An Age Old Metal Rivalry
As many of us know Megadeth founder Dave Mustaine is also one of the founders of the most successful metal band of all time Metallica. After being brutally kicked out of the band just a day before recording ‘Kill ‘Em All’ (and using his music by the way), Dave Mustaine returned to Los Angeles to form another heavy metal legend Megadeth. A huge motivation for Mustaine was to better his former band for spite (although the personal rivalry has cooled a bit over the years). Which is what drives the band through their first three records despite inhuman intakes of various hard drugs. So the question was and still stands. Who is the stronger metal band? Continue reading Megadeth Vs. Metallica: An Age Old Metal Rivalry

Top 10 Heaviest Melodic Metal Bands!
Before we get into this list there has to be some sort of definition of what metal is. To me, heavy metal is very distorted, overdriven guitars (whatever the tone may be), banging bass, thunderous drums (whatever the tempo or style) and commanding vocals (melodic or not). I’ve met a lot of people who think that if the front man of the band doesn’t sound like Phil Anselmo then it’s not metal. Continue reading Top 10 Heaviest Melodic Metal Bands!
Living Colour – Revving Up With A Purpose!
Living Colour are getting back on the scene once again with an upcoming new album entitled ‘Shade’. There’s only a few singles out at the moment but so far things are shaping up really well. Particularly with their latest single ‘Program’. The song is more Living Colour than Living Colour. Continue reading Living Colour – Revving Up With A Purpose!
The Winery Dogs – Dog Years (Live in Santiago) Album Review
There’s a couple of categories that super-groups fall into: Not particularly good, uninspired, or the ‘Decent, but I was expecting more’ thought. The latter of which most groups fall into with the exception of Velvet Revolver. The other exception to that rule is The Winery Dogs. Continue reading The Winery Dogs – Dog Years (Live in Santiago) Album Review
Metal Anniversary – 30 Years of ‘Hysteria’
I can’t believe it’s been 30 years of Def Leppard’s landmark album ‘Hysteria’ (because it’s such a fresh record). In fact, there’s a ton of metal anniversaries this year. 1987 was a great year for heavy music. Albums from Whitesnake, Motley Crue, Def Leppard, Guns N Roses, Faster Pussycat, Black Sabbath, The Cult, Dio, Dokken, Aerosmith, Kingdom Come, KISS, Testament and countless other bay area thrash bands.
