After ten years of laying dormant, The Mars Volta have re-emerged out of their own little corner of the music world. Releasing the new track ‘Blacklight Shine.’ An eleven plus minute track that runs the gamut of what the Volta can bring.
The music video is as extravagant as the song. Opening with a gal on the beach, who begins to run though the local village. It becomes in sink with the opening, percussive movement. Then the track moves into a progressive, funk vibe. While still providing catchy vocal melodies. A worthy hit for the Volta as the band progress’ forward.
The song then gives recognition to the drum and rhythm membership of the local scene. The area in which the video was filmed. The overall vision of the new track may throw even the most seasoned Mars Volta fans. Seeing as how most of the track is dedicated to the tribal drum outro. However, the original ideals of the band remain. Prog and world music combined is a perfect way describing the material.
The band has also announced a short, thirteen date reunion tour starting early fall. Starting in Dallas, Tx on September 23rd. And closing out at the Palladium in Hollywood, CA on October 21st. Hints have been made about what will be played. But the core members, Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodregues-Lopez have been fairly ambiguous about what songs they will play. Either way, fans should be pleased with the comeback.
