Those of us that have any inkling of what’s happening in the world know that Marilyn Manson is no stranger to being difficult. And he proved that once again over the weekend during his performance at Download festival. After inviting some fans onstage for his performance Manson proceeded to make a fan wearing an Avenged Sevenfold shirt take it off in front of thousands and thousands of people. His reasoning? ‘That’s not my band!’
Honestly, I don’t even know where to start with this. When you watch the fan made video of the situation you can see how confused and scared the kid is. And you feel so sorry for him. It’s not his fault that Avenged Sevenfold was about to go on stage and their fan base doesn’t care for Manson’s music. Apparently there were people in the audience booing Manson throughout his set. But ya know, that’s when professionalism comes in. Actually, it’s where being an adult comes in. I’m sorry that the audience got in your way of being paid and going home to your mansion.
The reasoning for inviting the fans onstage is unclear. So I feel that it’s definitely a possibility that he did it out of spite just to get this kid to take his shirt off. Not only that, but he says his demand in the microphone for the entire audience to hear. I mean, he’s such an asshole for doing this. He’s abusing his status and character. You know, from the screen and audio point of view it’s easy to remind yourself that these guys are still merely human. But when you’re face to face with some of these guys, like KISS for example, and their in full make up and character, it’s kind of fucking scary. Which makes the whole situation worse. By the way Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer pulled the same bullshit about six years ago with some poor kid who’s interviewing KISS with and Iron Maiden shirt on.
And the way he says it takes the situation to a whole new level. With his mock ‘tough guy’ voice that he uses. At the end of the day it sounds whiny and needy. I mean, honestly, there has to be something inherently wrong in your brain wiring for your ego to be so big that you completely disregard the feelings of an innocent kid. There’s no excuse for this kind of behavior. Grow up Manson, you’re not the guy most people in the audience came to see. Take your check and laugh to the bank and be done with it.
No excuse for this abuse of power.
