Rock and Roll Hall of Shame – 2022 Edition

Well, it’s another year and another incoming class for the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame. This years nominees are, well, let’s just say it’s another year and call it a day.

Honestly, this years newcomers are frankly all legends within their own right. Dolly Parton? I mean, c’mon. She may not exactly be rock music. But her impact on the music world, pop culture and humanitarian efforts are without question worthy credentials. Eminem is pretty much as far away from rock as it can get. However, his impact on the genre he represents is revolutionary. His satire and humor changed the game. Not to mention his deadly vocal attack. He’s certainly a worthy artist of being in the hall of fame.

I’ve accepted that the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame has more than just rock music in it. For some reason, rock music has to take on the popularity of all other genres. It can’t just be it’s own thing. I understand, that’s the way it is. But what I won’t accept is that year after year, non rock artists get nominated and put in the first year of being eligible. While real rock acts like Judas Priest, MC5 and Pat Benetar are nominated. But never get in. Priest has been in the running for years now. And they’re still just kind of dangling. Not really getting in. But always in the running. So my question is, why should an act like Eminem take precedence over Judas Priest? The answer is it shouldn’t.

I’m not saying that non rock artists aren’t worthy of being in the Hall. But if you’re going to call it the ‘Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame,’ you’d better damn well prioritize rock and it’s close subsidiaries. Like hard rock and metal. And frankly, every once in a while, someone does get in that’s really, truly deserving. Queen and Aerosmith were in the same 2001 class. Metallica is in there of course. As are Rush, KISS and Def Leppard. Yes is in there. Along with many other late 60’s/early 70’s acts. And that’s all well and good. But the past ten years or so, things have seemed a bit unbalanced. Jay Z is in the Hall but Iron Maiden and Judas Priest aren’t? Does that make a damn bit of sense in any way? They get nominated, sure, but they never get there. And, of course, the Hall likes to justify it by saying that fans can vote. Which they can. But it only amounts to one artist chosen by the people to enter. Not nearly enough if you ask me.

Either way, it is what it is. I’ll provide a link that takes the reader to the Rock Hall website to vote. Yes, you have to create an account. But only takes a sec. And it’s worth the result. There’s some great artists on the list. And you can vote for up to five artists a day. Or the same if you so desire. Let’s vote and send a message.
