Stone Temple Pilots Announce New Album ‘Peridita’ and Release Newe Single ‘Fare Thee Well’

Looks like STP are in it for the long haul with new vocalist Jeff Gutt. As the band prepare for their sophomore effort with the singer, they’ve released a little teaser. New single ‘Fare Thee Well,’ from what’s being described as a mostly acoustic venture, is a solid start from what looks like yet another exceptional effort from the DeLeo brothers and co.

Tour dates have also been announced. Those will be posted at the end. For now, let’s look at the new single, ‘Fare Thee Well.’ It’s classic STP, but with a little twist. I think that twist is new frontman Jeff Gutt. His vocal melodies are innovative, catchy and strong, similar to original frontman Scott Weiland. And he does bear a resemblance to the legendary singer without imitating or copying him.

The track starts out with a calming, beautiful acoustic lick before moving into the first verse. It’s instant, pure STP. They’ve always had a knack for writing timeless material. And ‘Fare Thee Well’ is no exception. I think this might be the album when the general public, those who like STP but aren’t huge fans without Weiland, accept the new singer. Sometimes the new guys has to earn it. And coming in after someone like Weiland is a tall order. It takes time to settle in. Although their first record with Jeff Gutt is pretty damn good.

The band has also announced tour dates starting next February. And there’s already been high enough demand to book second shows in some markets. STP is claiming they will play the new album in it’s entirety along with STP classics. I believe the shows will be entirely acoustic. Bassist Robert DeLeo has stated that this is the album STP had been wanting to make for a while. Most of the songs start out acoustic anyways. ‘Peridita’ actually translates into ‘loss’ in Spanish. Geez I wonder why the album would be called that. Seeing as how they’ve lost two frontmen: Scott Weiland, who actually passed four years ago today. And Chester Bennington, who was very briefly in the band, creating an excellent ep with them. There’s apparently even a song that addresses the loss entitled ‘I Didn’t Know The Time.’ Which honestly makes the hair on the back of my neck raise. This should be a very powerful album. The tour, billed as ‘An Evening With Stone Temple Pilots,’ will also feature additional musicians. A secondary guitarist along with other string players. The dates are as followed.
