Tenacious D – Kicking it With A Tasty Groove Once Again

Tenacious D are kicking it once again.  The stoner comedy duo announced their road map for a future Tenacious D album.  The follow up to The Pick of Destiny Which is regarded as one of the greatest stoner comedies of all time.  The follow up album comes on the heels of tour date announcements and an announcement to play Dave Grohl’s Cal Jam.  It seems the duo has their work cut out for them.

It’s been sixteen years since we’ve had a new album from The D.  The last being their soundtrack to the epic film The Pick Of Destiny.  The group rose to fame in the late 90’s with a show on HBO.  And despite it’s consistently growing cult fan base, the show was cancelled after only four episodes.  But the group prevailed and got a movie deal and second album.  The Pick of Destiny was released in 2002 and was a massive cult hit.  The film still resonates today.

And while the band did some on and off shows here and there after Pick, there never was a proper follow up.  Seeing as how Jack Black’s career simply took off.  But finally we’re getting one, ‘probably’.  The band released a short video announcing their return.  Which is required so they can ‘pay the rent’, which by legendary standards was ‘WAY HARDCOREAA!’  A classic Tenacious D scenario.  Tour dates have been announced, sticking mostly to the east coast and Northern Mid-West.  It’s a short trek, but I’m sure if it’s successful there will be more.  Pre-sales begin on May 16th through the bands website.  The password is simply HOPE.

This is great news from the band.  The world needs Tenacious D.  So here’s to hoping that they stick around a little longer this time.  Tour dates below.
