Top Five Tracks For The Impeachment Hearings

It’s been a really tense past few days in Washington. It has been complete disfunction junction over there and the past few days it’s been on full display. The hearings were a mess, despite what anyones political beliefs are. And whether or not you’re a Democrat, Independent or Republican, the situation is fairly dire. And the dramatic chaos that ensued inspired me to write down a few songs that match the mood of the hearing. Here’s the top five tracks for the 2019 Impeachment hearings.

Peaches – The Presidents of the United States of America

Alright, so this song is def on the alternative side of the rock spectrum. The Presidents of the United States of America really got their double meaning on on ‘Peaches.’ The purely 90’s track may not literally be about impeaching. But the name of the song along with the name of the band gives the song a double entendre. Giving it the perfect edge to be on this list.

This House is Rockin’ (With Domestic Problems) – Cheap Trick

Oh, the House of Reps is certainly Rockin’ with domestic problems. That much is very apparent. Even though this energetic rocker from Rockford’s Cheap Trick is more about actual home violence, it’s lyrics and message can easily be interpreted as a political statement. Particularly considering Watergate was a short six years prior. And still fresh in everyone’s mind. The dry, sarcastic tone of the track also brings out a satirical call out to Washington’s ineffective elite. ‘I KNOW, YOU KNOW. Somethings wrong and I gotta go home!’

The Mob Rules – Black Sabbath

‘If you listen to fools, the mob rules!’ That lyric really sums up a lot. By 1981 Black Sabbath had gone through a renovation of sorts. But they didn’t lose what made the band Sabbath. Lyrical content about horror and political subjects were the order of the day once again. And new frontman Ronnie James Dio injected a newfound energy into the band. As well as a new, more aggressive, power metal direction. The title track to the second album shows that Sabbath never lost a step. Clearly being about those who run governments and those who blindly follow them.

This Little Pig – Living Colour

Fans of the political heavy rock band, Living Colour universally agree that ‘Stain,’ the bands third album, is their absolute best. The band really upped their attack and heaviness. As well as their angst ridden lyrical content about political and social issues. And ‘This Little Pig’ shows the band at its absolute most intense. The thrash oriented track covers their point of view on the Rodney King beatings specifically. But the song can also be interpreted as a political track. I mean, it is in the sense that law enforcement is a political subject. But man, it’s effective for this current political mess. It was a perfect listen while the hearings were happening. Particularly the teeth grinding Republican moments.

Prove You Wrong – Prong

Prong can certainly be a political band at times. They write about other subjects, but social and political issues are prominent in their lyrical content. Prong’s sophomore effort, ‘Prove You Wrong,’ has it’s political moments for sure. But the title track, the one I’ve selected, can really be open to interpretation. It’s simply about proving your adversaries wrong. No matter the current situation. But it sure makes for a perfect track to watch these hearing to. Both sides of the isle are furiously trying to out do each other with information, testimony and spoken facts. It’s sure a shit show, and Prong’s ‘Prove You Wrong’ is the perfect angst ridden track to accompany such a mess.
