Willow took to the SNL stage in Rockefeller center in NYC on Saturday. Delivering a duet of song that tore the roof off of the venue. Leaving the studio audience in shock and awe.
Promoting her new album ‘Coping Mechanism.’ Willow proved that rock has not yet gone the way of jazz. Her first performance of ‘Curious/Furious’ combined progressive pop elements with classic indie pop rock elements. As well as tiny tint of emo in there. Certainly one of the more accessible songs on her new album. And a clear choice for a single. It’s certainly not a bad song. But there’s stronger on the record.
It wasn’t until her second performance of the track ‘Ur A Stranger’ did things really turn up. A solid, fat riff. Combined with progressive vocal elements. Heavy metal breakdowns. And some knarly distorted vocals. Leaving the audience completely dumbfounded. We’re talking about Willow Smith here. Will Smith’s daughter. And she proved that she’s ready to keep up the veterans out there. Not only that, but it was inspiring to see someone of this generation doing this kind of music. And doing it well. A little flicker of hope in a very depressing musical landscape. Rock on.
